Case Study: How We Upgraded the Network Across 4 Medical Clinics Without a Single Hour of Downtime

When MedCore Diagnostics came to us, they had a problem that's common among healthcare organizations that have grown organically: a patchwork network that had been built up over years without a coherent design. Four clinic locations, each with its own consumer-grade router, unlabelled cable runs, and no centralized management. Staff were experiencing daily connectivity drops. The Challenge

The technical challenge was significant, but the operational constraint was even more demanding: MedCore couldn't afford downtime during business hours. Clinics operate from early morning to early evening, five days a week. Any work that disrupted patient care was unacceptable.

This meant every aspect of the project had to be planned for evening and weekend execution — and had to be reversible at any point if something unexpected came up.

Our Approach

We started with a full site survey across all four locations. We documented every existing cable run, every piece of active equipment, and every application that depended on the network. This gave us a complete picture of what we were replacing and what we needed to preserve during the transition.

From there, we designed a unified SD-WAN architecture with centralized management. Every location would run the same hardware, configured to the same standard, managed from a single dashboard. We specified Cat6A cabling throughout — overkill for current requirements, but the right investment for a healthcare organization that will be running this infrastructure for the next decade.

The installation was sequenced carefully. We pre-staged all equipment and pre-configured everything we could before going on-site. Each location was completed in a single overnight shift, with a full rollback plan ready if anything went wrong. Nothing did.

The Result

Network uptime improved from approximately 94% to 99.8% within the first 30 days. Patient check-in system timeouts dropped to zero. The infrastructure passed the healthcare compliance audit on first submission. And MedCore's IT team — previously spending hours each week troubleshooting connectivity issues — now manages all four locations from a single dashboard in minutes.
